Talk about BIG and MESSY!! How can it get more so!?!? Painting with the whole body is so much fun! It’s a great sensory experience, it’s messy just like kids love and it, and they actually end up cleaner afterward (because of the bath they have to have). The art though? Well… it didn’t turn out so much like art… more like a slip n’ slide.
Here’s how it went.
We got these paints a while ago and since they’re totally organic and even edible, I thought it would be awesome for a painting day where anything could happen.
They’re baby finger paints from Wee Can Too.
I’m going to tell you that I wasn’t super impressed with these paints. They were kind of grainy and gritty and you can’t really make designs with them, they just spread out and don’t make color. So, what I wanted to be a big body painting day, turned into more of a sliding in paint kind of day. That’s still pretty fun though, so I’m not disappointed.
Also, you kind of need to use them all in one go because once you mix them with water, they go bad within a month and they have to be kept in the refrigerator.
If you don’t want to mess with those- Red Ted Art has a Finger Paint Recipe that is non-toxic and looks pretty easy to make! Or, make some really quickly with yogurt with this tutorial from Love Play Learn.
The instructions say to fill the container with water and shake to mix. It also says that they might thicken and to add more water to thin them.
Since we were planning on having a bunch of kids over to paint, I wanted more paint. So I mixed them in a jar so it would be easy to add extra water. It wasn’t really necessary though as they didn’t get too thick.
Add the water and then shake shake shake to get them all mixed up. You might want to make a face like my little man is in this pic. He was very intense about shaking.
Roll out a long length of paper.
Drop some dollops on the paper.
Invite the kids to experiment.
It started out with hands and fingers, but quickly devolved into feet and other body parts.
And sliding in the paint down the length of the paper.
And then the best part!
Running through the sprinkler to get clean!
