Variegated embroidery floss is so much fun to work with, and there\u2019s so much variety out there these days! Variegated embroidery floss is dyed with a repeating pattern of colors through the floss. There can be just one color with a few different shades, or there may be several colors. Variegated floss can add a lot of texture, variety and a POP! of color to your projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you hoarding some variegated floss with no idea what to do with it? Or you\u2019ve seen some that you\u2019d love to get<\/a>, but just don\u2019t know how you\u2019d use it? Well you\u2019re in luck! I\u2019ve gathered a bunch of ideas right here for ways you can use that beautiful multi-colored embroidery floss!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visible Mending<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ok, I\u2019m still learning, so bear with me, but I love doing a little visible mending. I recently discovered these mending tools<\/a> that let you weave a patch really easily and quickly. I will admit that my socks in this picture are a little threadbare, but they\u2019re some of my faves, so I keep repairing them. But, imagine these cute patches on your pants or a shirt!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have been mending my kids\u2019s pants, skirts, and leggings for a while and it\u2019s just fun to have a POP of color right out there. You could easily sew around a patch with sashiko style mending with variegated floss too. That would look amazing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embroidery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Of course, embroidery floss is meant for embroidery, so that\u2019s the classic way to use it! I like to do a simple back stitch in a design with lots of detail. It really shows off all the different colors that are in the floss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Embroider a kiddos name on a hoodie or sweatshirt \u2013 look how the variegated floss really pops on this black sweatshirt!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This person uses the cheap variegated floss to close up the back side of their embroidery hoops! What a fun idea!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cross Stitch<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

And then there\u2019s embroidery\u2019s close cousin, cross stitch. Cross stitch utilizes just a cross stitch, sometimes with a back stitch to outline different elements of the design. Cross stitch can use variegated floss too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this picture, the moths on the border, and some of the other elements are stitched with a variety of variegated embroidery flosses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some people make a lot of slashes and then go back over it to make the crosses, while some people make each cross one at a time. You might want to experiment to see which you like better with variegated floss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
